Directions for improving the analytical support of innovation management in a machine-building enterprise

Abstract: 

Introduction. The effectiveness of innovation management at a high-tech engineering enterprise is largely determined by the completeness of the support system, which includes a number of interconnected components, with analytical support playing a special role. Theoretical analysis. It has been established that the current scientific literature does not pay enough attention to the analytical component of innovation management: there is no comprehensive definition of the concept, its key elements are not specified, and the target focus remains insufficiently formulated. Empirical analysis. It has been revealed that the methods and directions of innovative analysis and assessment of an enterprise’s innovative potential and innovative activity are often based on a list of indicators that are difficult to determine in the absence of a developed system for accounting the results and costs of innovative activity. Results. The content of analytical support is presented(a holistic, organized set of rules, approaches, and stages of analytical comprehension of information reflecting the state, trends, and prospects for the development of the enterprise’s innovation sphere, methods of analyzing the latter, as well as types of analytical work and the results of its presentation in the form of reports, certificates, reviews, registers, etc.), its focus and purpose (providing the enterprise’s management with an array of analytical information that provides a comprehensive and accurate assessment of the state and challenges of the enterprise’s innovation sphere, as well as the state and trends of the external innovation environment). A methodological approach is proposed based on the use of an analytical indicators’ set that makes it possible to assess the innovative potential (the share of employees engaged in research and development at the enterprise in the total number of employees, the share of own financial resources in financing the costs of innovation activities, the share of investments in intellectual property in the total amount of investments in fixed assets) and the innovative activities efficiency of a machine-building enterprise (indicators of return on costs of innovative activity, productivity of innovative personnel, return on intangible assets), calculated on the basis of financial and statistical reporting data. The proposed approach was tested on the example of a machine-building enterprise.
